This position is responsible for procuring supplies, service and equipment for an assigned area and in accordance with University of Utah Healthcare (UUHC) guidelines as well as state and federal procurement laws. The incumbent procures products, ensures contract compliance, assesses need and availability, determines vendor sources, and reviews requisitions.

This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains products via direct purchasing or designated wholesaler or distributor through established UUHC procurement procedures and approved software.

  • Confirms delivery of procured items and verifies receipt and integrity of product.

  • Maintains daily inventory, identifies items on shortage and backorder and communicates issues to appropriate individuals and departments.

  • Manages and maintains inventory control system, including but not limited to associated automation, and databases.

  • Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions and contract eligibility, verifies prices, and ensures there are no discrepancies with orders.

  • Coordinates with internal and external customers to identify orders, needs and refines specifications.

  • Determines method to process requisition based on cost, time constraints, existing open contracts and/or competitive bidding.

  • Collaborates with vendors and internal customers, such as health care professionals and support staff to ensure supply, service or equipment needs are met.

  • May perform related financial and accounting functions.

  • May be responsible for preparing, overseeing and providing documents for audit purposes.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

  • Knowledge of purchasing and contracting policies, laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.

  • Knowledge of University procurement policies and procedures.

  • Ability to resolve problems related to prices, product availability, product quality and delivery.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • One year experience in a purchasing related area.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, related field or equivalency.

Licenses Required

  • Current Pharmacy Technician licensure in the State of Utah.

* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification may be preferred in some areas.

  • Procurement experience for a public entity, retail or in a hospital setting.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
